QPSNordic 34+: the Nordic questionnaire on psychological and social factors at work

What is QPSNordic?

QPSNordic is a questionnaire for surveying psychological, social and organisational factors at work. It was developed by researchers from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland in a project the Nordic Council of Ministers started in 1994, and tested in all four countries. The National Institute of Occupational Health (STAMI) published the user manual in 2001.

The manual says the questionnaire may be copied, and that you may build your own systems for registering, analysing and reporting. The short version, QPSNordic 34+, has 37 questions and seven background questions.

What you get

• The questionnaire in Word, with the manual’s own introduction, the background questions and all 37 questions with their answer scales
• The answer register in Excel: one row per form, and a summary with the count, mean, median and distribution per question

Before you use it

• The short version has no scales, and the manual says the validity and reliability testing done for QPSNordic does not apply to it. Look at the questions one by one.
• The manual advises against statistical analysis for groups of fewer than 10 people. The answer register therefore shows nothing until at least 10 have answered.
• Employees must be told beforehand what the survey is for and how anonymity is kept. Taking part must be voluntary, and no results about individuals may be presented.
